Unless you’re a math fan, you probably appreciate pie more than pi. More than 200 first responders in Whatcom County will likely agree when they receive a slice of locally made pie to celebrate Pi Day.
With Pi Day coming up on March 14, Whatcom Land Title Co. is delivering handcrafted, made-from-scratch pies Friday from Barb’s Pies and Pastries in Ferndale to fire stations in Whatcom County, thanking first responders for their service.
“Our first responders perform so heroically for us, especially for the past year while facing added danger from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Colleen Baldwin, owner and CEO of Whatcom Land Title. “With Pi Day approaching, we wanted to have a little fun while showing our appreciation for them.”
Pi, a Greek letter, is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. That rounds off to 3.14, which is why it’s connected to March 14.
Nearly 40 pies are being delivered to Bellingham, Lynden, North Whatcom and Whatcom County District 7 (Ferndale area) fire stations, Baldwin said.
